Unpopular property tax statements to be sent…after elections!

ENFIA property tax leftist SYRIZA pledged to abolish comes due in October…

The first “love letters” by the Greek tax bureau to collect this year’s property taxes — the controversial “Enfia” levy, as the acronym reads in Greek — will be mailed in late September, i.e. after the Sept. 20 snap election.

Caretaker alternate minister Trifonas Alexiadis announced the development on Tuesday, speaking on a television news program. He added that the 2015 statements “will have very few differences than those of 2014.”

A promise to abolish the unpopular property tax was one of the “heavy weapons” employed by radical leftist SYRIZA when it was in the opposition, up until Jan. 25.

In the end, the former Tsipras government said it could not abolish the tax — immediately — given the commitments it signed in the third memorandum.

A first payment installment (five are allowed) will be due by Oct. 30, the last working day of the month.
