US Secretary of State Kerry dubs Turkish military forces ‘invasion’ in speech for first time

Official US documents call it ‘military intervention’

US Secretary of State, John Kerry used the term ‘military invasion’ for the first time, referring to the Turkish occupying forces in the northern part of Cyprus. During an event on the US Department of State’s initiatives to modernise modernise Embassies and Consulates abroad Kerry used the term, contrary to official US diplomatic documents that use the term ‘military intervention’. During his speech in acknowledgement of the 40-year long services on the state department of Assistant Secretary Bureau of Consular Affairs, Michele Bond, Kerry said: ‘….she was assigned on the special task force dealing with the invasion of Cyprus’.
