Varoufakis submits document on Siemens scandal

The Greek FinMin said SYRIZA is committed to shed light on the scandal

Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis underlined the political, moral and legal commitment of the Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) government to shed light on the Siemens scandal in a document he submitted to Greek Parliament. The document was submitted in response to a question submitted by Independent Greeks (ANEL) deputy Nikos Nikolopoulos regarding the out-of-court settlement with Siemens.

Background

The Siemens bribery scandal in Greece was a corruption scandal in Greece over deals with Siemens AG and Greek government officials over security systems and purchases by OTE in the 1990s. Charges have not been bought against any specific individual as of August 27, 2008.

In August 2012, the Greek government signed a settlement with Siemens worth 330 mln euros.
