Weidmann: Europe’s debt crisis could return

“The crisis has shown what is the result when countries do not follow the agreed and lose their credibility”

The president of  Deutsche Bundesbank, Jens Weidmann, warned that the crisis in Europe could return, if the countries do not comply with the strict fiscal rules.

Jens Weidmann gave an interview to “Welt am Sonntag” emphasizing that through the monetary policy governments bought some time to implement the necessary structural reforms and consolidate their budget.

According to Weidmann, if they don’t take advantage of that time, the debt crisis may be returned very quickly. “The crisis has shown what is the result when countries do not follow the agreed and lose their credibility”, he stated.
