What happens to the leftover?

The unemployed have returned to their homes

Disruption has been caused by the disclosure of the “error” made in the calculations of the economic team in Greece. As a result , nearly half of the ‘package’ designed for benefits before the government elections was left.
By the 30th of May, the allowance was requested and received from about 320,000 households. As a result the leftover was half if not more.

From yesterday’s meeting at the General Accounting Office of Greece , was decided to have a second “package” for the beneficiaries of the social dividend. But changes urgently need to be made to the income criteria of the beneficiaries, in order to distribute the remaining 300 million euro by the end of June.
The fact that more and more unemployed or low pensioners were forced to live under the same roof with families in order to survive, seems to be the explanation for the error made by the government
It seems that the households were less than those calculated based on the tax returns submitted by taxpayers in previous years, while the members of each house were more than they seemed in the content of the statements.

So it was decided to change the criteria and to distribute the lump-sum grant to more households.
To increase the number of households eligible for the “dividend”, the government decided loosen up at least three limitations set by initials:

1st: to increase by 1,050 euro the basic income criterion: From 6,000 euro that was the limit if you were unmarried, it will increase to 7,050 euro.

2nd: not to cut the allowance as income increases: all beneficiaries will receive the full amount that they are entitled to, without discounts. But if they exceed the limit even for one euro, then they will lose the entire amount and receive nothing.

3rd: take into account the income of 2013: so if someone hasn’t got the income that had in 2012, for which the application was rejected, now they are eligible to receive it.
