Why women go naked in music video clips… It's not just about the money! (nude music vids)

Sex sells, but these women say that their more interested in promoting feminism rather than making money… Are they the new Joan Baez?

Sexual gratuity reigns supreme in the music video world. Some would say that its all to just grab attention as women show flesh for publicity. But Rose McGowan, the latest woman to go naked in a clip says that there’s more to it… “I believe in civil disruption,” she told online magazine Nowness. “I also think it’s important for bodies to be represented in a non-sexual manner, especially women’s bodies.”

Miley Cyrus, notorious for flinging off her clothes in clips like “Wrecking Ball”, cites political reasons for her frequent nudity and champions the “Free the Nipple” campaign. She states that nudity empowers women against “female oppression and censorship.”

The same applies to Emily Ratajkowski of “Blurred Lines”. She told Ocean Drive magazine that the video clip gave her the “opportunity to say things that I felt about feminism today and about women in general in pop culture.”

Do you agree that unnecessary female nudity in the entertainment industry celebrates the human body without taking attention away from a woman’s real talent?
