In a letter made public 17 members of SYRIZA’s Central Committee have handed in their resignations accusing the party’s leadership of transforming into a ‘pro-austerity’ political group. Among those that signed the letter are active MPs Elenis Sotiriou, Vasilis Chatzilamprou and Dimitris Kodelas who all voted against the two prior-action bills passed in parliament as part of the negotiation stages. The 17, who are affiliated to one of the far left faction KOE within the wider left platform, accuse PM Alexis Tipras and the team surrounding him of ‘failing miserably’ in their negotiating tactics with EU creditors, while they warn that forces in SYRIZA bent on changing the party character will fail.
