4.8 earthquake hits off Lesvos coast

Part of aftershock series of tremors of recent large 6.3 earthquake

A 4.8 magnitude earthquake was recorded southeast off the coast of the island of Lesvos, according to the National Geodynamic Institute on Thursday morning. The tremor had a depth of 5km and struck 19km off the town of Plomari, which was recently rocked by a powerful earthquake that resulted in the death of a woman. Scientists say the tremor, which hit at 4.48am in the morning is part of a series of aftershocks following the big 6.3 earthquake.
