A radical's radical: Greek minister calls for Grexit, lashes out at '5th column'

Minister Panagiotis Lafazanis “SYRIZA’s Greece will stop being an American-Atlantic plot of land, a German fief or a satellite of the American-Israeli Mideast axis”

The unofficial head of ruling SYRIZA’s “internal opposition”, a high-ranking minister in his own right, on Wednesday expressed his view that “Greece can withstand (the effects) of Grexit, whereas the EU will sustain a mortal wound.”

Panagiotis Lafazanis, a virulent anti-capitalist who began his political career with the pro-Soviet Communist Party (KKE) and currently holds the wordy portfolio of “Productive Reconstruction, Environment and Energy”, also lashed out at what he called a “fifth column” in Greece. In using the inter-war phraseology, he said the latter’s operatives  shouldn’t be “allowed to terrorize the people with the bogeyman of default and a national currency.”

Lafazanis’ head-turning and utterly radical statements came in a magazine article he penned.

Amongst others, the most prominent proponent of the “Left Platform” with SYRIZA called for a “complete rift” with creditors and the country’s exit from the euro zone.

“SYRIZA’s Greece will stop being an American-Atlantic plot of land, a German fief or a satellite of the American-Israeli Mideast axis, and it won’t be a country up for sale, privatizing its strategic infrastructures and strategic networks,” Lafazanis said, leaving no one unsure of his political leanings.
