“On the job training” appears as an apropos description for one SYRIZA minister, who on Wednesday left Parliament deputies dumbfounded when she said that “I didn’t even fill out my own tax return so I’m now learning”.

The “learning” deals with the country’s tax code, and the minister is Alternate Finance Minister Nadia Valavani, while the venue was Parliament’s economic affairs committee. She added that Greece’s tax code and various laws are a “real labyrinth”.

“I’m learning the tax law in a difficult manner. My studies were different, they were in macro-economics,” she said.
