According to information, an announcement regarding new findings that have been unearthed at the Casta Tomb in Amphipolis is expected to be released today, on October 28, a national holiday for Greeks that commemorates the rejection by Greek Prime Minister Ioannis Metaxas of the ultimatum made by Italian dictator Benito Mussolini on October 28, 1940 (the so-called Ohi Day)
This symbolic day of national pride may prove to be particularly important in regards to the Amphipolis tomb. Although the Culture Ministry’s tactic is to announce any news in relation to the progress of the excavation at the enigmatic monument at around noon on Sunday, today may be an exception.
Regarding the content of the announcement that is expected today, no information has been provided yet. The tight-lipped representatives of the Culture Ministry are being extra careful to avoid possible leaks. However, there are speculations that the new findings include the head of the second sphinx adorning the entrance of the tomb, parts of the Sphinxes wings and other decorating elements of the third chamber.
