Photos of a Greek pensioner crying in a heap outside a Thessaloniki bank on Friday went viral as they depicted the desperation of pensioners’ plight in Greece, especially since the imposition of capital controls. The identity of the weeping pensioner in the photos was Giorgos Chatzifiotis, aged 77, a Greek who had worked at some point in Germany as an immigrant. Following the release of his name, the pensioner was recognized by James Koufos, a finance CEO based in Australia.
