Authorities have cleared the area near the U.S. Capitol complex on Tuesday morning after an unattended package was found just minutes after the center reopened.
The center had been set to return to normal operations Tuesday after police said officers shot and wounded a man who pulled a weapon at a security checkpoint as he entered the underground Capitol Visitor Center Monday afternoon, NBC reports.
U.S. Capitol Police say the north screening facility of the visitor center is closed for the investigation, while the south screening facility remains open.
No further information has been released regarding the suspicious package.
