General government revebues down over same term

Greek general government revenues from income and property taxes amounted to 5.244 billion euros (or 25.4 pct of total revenues) in the second quarter of 2016, down from 5.301 billion (26.9 pct of total) in the corresponding period last year, Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) reported on Monday.
The report said that taxes on production and imports totaled 6.963 billion euros (33.8 pct of total) in the April-June period, from 6.124 billion (31.1 pct) in the same period last year. General government revenues amounted to 20.630 billion euros in the second quarter of 2016 from 19.709 billion in 2015.
Government expanditure on payroll totaled 5.410 billion euros (26.5 pct of total spending) in the second quarter from 5.353 billion (25.1 pct) last year, while spending on social benefits reached 9.471 billion euros (46.4 pct of total) in the April-June period from 9.609 billion (45 pct of total) in the same period last year. Total general government spending was 20.430 billion euros in the second quarter, from 21.336 billion euros last year, with primary spending amounting to 18.935 billion euros from 19.689 billion in 2015.
Greece’s public debt was 315.290 billion euros at the end of the second quarter of 2016, from 301.266 billion euros in the same period last year.
