Four ancient shipwreck sites across Greece to be turned into submarine museums

Visitors will have the opportunity to study history up close, while weightless in the depths of the blue sea

Four shipwrecks will turn into submarine museums, after a new study was approved by the Central Archaeological Council.

The shipwrecks are in Peristera island (Alonissos, Sporades) dated 5th century B.C., a Byzantine shipwreck near Kikynthos island, a shipwreck near Akra Glaros, and one near Telegraphos. According to the study, all four locations will be declared seaside archaeological sites.   Visits will be carried out with diver-guides up to 40 meters.

No alterations of any kind to the locale or the finds will be allowed, while any form of fishing or non-archaeological activity nearby will be illegal.

During the guided diving tours, the vessels bearing visitors will not be able to dock anywhere else besides appointed arrival and departure spots.
