French Finance Minister: Greece has done enough

Sapin visiting Athens on official trip

French Finance Minister Michel Sapin expressed the need for the second review on the Greek bailout program to conclude as soon as possible. Mr. Sapin, who is in Athens on an official visit, met with Greek Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos and Minister of Economy and Development Dimitris Papadimitriou. The French politician sent a message to the IMF saying it would be a pity if the Fund abandoned Greece after 2010, as this would hurt the country’s credibility. “You can’t ask more from Greece which has made so made such efforts”, he said, adding that France was standing by Greece. “There must be a deal for growth, employment and autonomy”, he underlined. The Frencn Minister and PM are in Athens offering their support to Greece with the hope of pushing for a positive outcome in the negotiations between the embattled country and its creditors.
