Greece celebrates Earth Day with bike races on Sun.

Public transport for participants and their bikes is free on Sunday

The City of Athens and Organization of Culture, Sports and Youth are celebrating World Earth Day (April 22) with the 22nd Bicycle Run of Athens on Sunday, April 26. The race is set to start at 11 a.m. at Zappeion Hall, near the National Gardens. There are 2.7 km and 8.5 km races being organized with both starting and ending at Zappeion. The 1.1 km race for the physically-disabled starts at ropylaia.

Other events on the day include a bike expo as well as a traffic training center for children aged from 4 to 7 years from 9 a.m. until the end of the race.

To register visit www.opanda.gr or www.cityofathens.gr before April 24. Transportation for participants with their bicycles will be free from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the day of the event for all participants provided they show their registration. Those who wish to register on the day can do so at the courtyard of Zappeion mansion from 8.30 a.m. through to 10.30 a.m.
