Greece has been targeted by Russian hacker group

More than half of the attacks have been made in the USA and Spain, but the list of victims are countries like Serbia, Greece, Romania, Poland, Turkey, Italy and France

According to an analysis of Symantec, Greece is included in the countries that have been targeted by Russian hacker group known as «Dragonfly» or «Energetic Bear».

The group for which analysts of the security systems company estimates that there is an involvement with governmental services, attacking supply companies in the U.S. and Europe as well and may have the potential to even cause extended blackouts.

They are targeting on operators of oil pipelines, electricity companies and other “strategically important” energy companies.

More than half of the attacks have been made in the USA and Spain, but the list of victims are countries like Serbia, Greece, Romania, Poland, Turkey, Italy and France.
One of the elements that reinforce the version of the government’s involvement in the group, according to Bloomberg, is the fact that since 2011 appeared to be working with schedule hours (9am to 6pm) Monday to Friday.

“The Dragonfly team has good infrastructure and a range of tools at its disposal and is able to mount attacks on a large number of victims,” said the head of the security team of Symantec’s Mr. Eric Chien.

Symantec has started to monitor the Russian hackers since 2012 when the attacks only seemed like spying attacks. Some of the “weapons” available to them, invade remote software that companies are using and “give the keys” to hackers.

Finally, according to Symantec, the attacks have much in common with the Stuxnet virus that has targeted the nuclear facilities of Iran in 2010.
