International tourist arrivals at main Greek airports rise in September

Based on the data so far, it is almost certain that the record-target of 19.5 million airport arrivals will be exceeded

According to the latest figures released by the Greek Tourism Enterprises Association (SETE), international tourist arrivals at Greece’s main airports continued increasing in September.

More specifically, a total of 2,117,401 tourists arrived at the main airports of the country in September 2014, i.e. 174,703 more compared to the same month of 2013. This means a 9% increase compared to September of the previous year.

For the first nine months of the year, the increase reached 14.3% compared to the same period in 2013.

SETE said that, based on the data so far, it is almost certain that the record-target of 19.5 million airport arrivals (21.5 million including cruise ships) will be exceeded.

In its announcement, the Greek Tourism Enterprises Association noted that despite Greek tourism’s encouraging performance in the last two years, potential investors have been taking a reluctant stance as a result of the ongoing talk for elections, lower growth rates in the eurozone and geopolitical instability in the wider region.
