Konstantopoulou-Varoufakis-Melenchon to join forces

Zoe Konstantopoulou: New ‘European movement’ in the making

Former president of the Greek parliament Zoe Konstantopoulou heralded the creation of a European front against austerity and a ‘Plan B’, with the participation of former Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis and French left politician Jean-Luc Melenchon, during an interview on Greek TV station Ant-1, Thursday morning. The bellicose left politician, who threw her support behind Panagiotis Lafazanis’s Popular Unity, said that Yanis Varoufakis, herself and the French politician were preparing to sign a ‘European declaration’ aimed at presenting an alternative ‘Plan B’ to the policies provided by the established political powers in Europe. She called on the peoples of Europe to prepare for the new move, ‘as some had invested in convincing the Greek people that history has ended’. Konstantopoulou added that the Popular Unity party would not betray the Greek people, inviting the electorate to vote for Lafazanis’s party so that their rights and democracy would be safeguarded. Konstantopoulou blasted her former leader Alexis Tsipras for betraying the Greek people by going back on his promises.
