Saturday’s gigantic search operation for missing student proved fruitless

Large number of volunteers responded to the search

Despite the efforts of volunteers who exceeded by far the 400, there was no sign of the missing student Vaggelis Giakoumakis.

Missing students mother who travelled from Crete to thank in person all volunteers searching for her son, broke down and made a dramatic plea. “I can’t handle it any longer. I want to find my child”.

The family of a 20-year-old college student continued searching for man who went missing 22 days ago outside the northwest city of Ioannina.

Vangelis Giakoumakis, who hails from Crete, was enrolled in an agriculture program at a state-run tertiary institute south of the city when he disappeared.

Several versions of what occurred to the young man have been aired and investigated, with the latest one very recent sighting coming from the port city of Piraeus, nearly 500 kilometres south of Ioannina.

Volunteers have aided in the search efforts thus far.
