Notorious drug lord Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman Loera has been captured six months after his escape from a Mexican maximum security prison.

Mexican authorites captured El Chapo during a raid in Los Mochis, the birthplace of the drug lord.

Five cartel gangsters were killed and another six were arrested during the police raid, while one Mexican marine was injured. A vast arsenal of weapons was siezed which included rocket launchers, machine guns and armored vehicles.

Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto wrote on his Twitter account on Friday: ‘Mission accomplished: we have him’

Attorney General Arely Gomez confirmed at that press conference that the address where Guzman was captured had been monitored for a month.

He also confirmed that one of the leads that authorities used to locate El Chapo was his intention to film an autobiographical movie, and the meetings that took place between Guzman’s lawyers and actresses and producers.
