Nostradamus’s predictions about Trump, Greece, world’s end

Apocalypse now!

According to conspiracy theories that have been circulating among social media since the conclusion of the US presidential elections, and as reported by the British press, Nostradamus, the 16th century French apothecary and reputed seer, predicted both ‘audacious’ Trump’s victory from 4 centuries ago, how it ties in with Greece’s current woes, and the end of the world.

While most of the world was shocked at the outcome of the U.S. elections, followers of Nostradamus insist that the prophet was able to foretell the outcome, citing his own words as evidence: “The great shameless, audacious bawler. He will be elected governor of the army: The boldness of his contention…. The bridge broken, the city faint from fear.” (Century III, Quatrain 81), where “shameless, audacious bawler” is taken to allude to Trump’s loudness, metaphorically, while “governor of the army” refers to him being in charge of the world’s foremost military force.

Apparently, Nostradamus predicted Greece’s plight, too: “The false trumpet concealing madness will cause Byzantium to change its laws” (Century 1, 40). In the context of Byzantium having been an ancient Greek colony, some are now taking these words to mean that Greece is becoming a beacon for immigrants and refugees, and connecting it to the fact that immigration has been at the very center of Trump’s candidacy.

Lastly, it is believed that Nostradamus predicted the end of the world when he wrote in Quatrain 50 that “the Republic of the big city” would engage in costly military operations, ordered by the “trumpet,” which has been interpreted by many to imply nuclear war, or, in other words, the end of the world. In fact, one Facebook user, whose comment was published in Express, wrote: “I am pretty sure this is the start to Nostradamus’ prediction of the Apocalypse,” while another posted: ” “Nostradamus predicted this outcome. Nostradamus predicted that after the trumpet wins, there will be a Great War! He predicted this 400 yrs ago!
