The stretch of fishing houses that line the waterfront of Mykonos town with balconies over the sea came to be known as Little Venice. Initially they were created in the mid-18th century for rich merchants or captains. their basement doors provided direct access to the sea and underground storage areas that led people to believe that the owners may have been pirates. These days, little Venice is considered one of the msot romantic spots of the island.
