Prosecutor recommends Messi acquittal on tax fraud

His father Jorge should receive 18 months, says court

The Spanish prosecutor on the Lionel Messi tax fraud case has recommended the charges against the Barcelona and Argentina football superstar be dropped, according to Spanish newspaper ‘Mundo Deportivo’. Lionel Messi appeared in a Barcelona court, Thursday, and denied any knowledge of the tax issues, telling the prosecutor he signed documents without reading them because he trusted his father who was in charge of his dealings. The prosecutor’s recommendation was 18 months imprisonment for the Argentinean’s father, Jorge, who had full knowledge of any tax irregularities and tax evasion.
