Roadside shrines of Greece to honor God (pics)

Shrines built by the faithful remind drivers of near-brushes or brushes with death

The roadside shrines of Greece can be founded at twisted mountain highways or busy streets. The tiny pedestalled constructions are usually topped with a cross and have an iccon of a saint and an oil lamp inside, perhaps a picture of a personal offering.

Some mark the sites of fatal accidents, however others commemorate near misses and are built in gratitude to God that the driver’s life was spared.
