Serbia closes FYROM border to Afghan refugees

Thousands of people are stuck in Idomeni since borders are closed to Afghan refugees

Refugees and migrants in Idomeni face more problems in their efforts to enter FYROM since the country has closed its southern border with Greece to Afghan migrants, allowing entry only for Iraqis and Syrians responding to a “domino effect” of same restrictions imposed by their neighbors to the north, as FYROM authorities claimed.

Moreover, as police authorities state, only 100 people of Syrian and Iraqi origin are passing the borders every hour causing huge delays and many problems in Idomeni where about 5,500 people in total are waiting to pass through.

Serbia has closed its border with FYROM to Afghan refugees, imposing stricter border controls in order to prevent illegal migration, as local media reported citing officials.

This has caused a ‘domino-effect’ of same restrictions with FYROM announcing that the country will not allow Afghan refugees entering.
