Shocking data shows thousands receive 100-Euro gross monthly salaries!

Part-time and casual work the norm!

According to data released by the Greek Labour Ministry, 126,956 workers are paid a gross salary of 100 Euros per month! The data, published in newspaper “Ta Nea”, illustrates the shocking reality in the private sector, where a total of 343,760 employees that fall under the category of either part-time or casual workers, receive a gross salary ranging from 100 to 400 Euros per month. September figures reveal the complete deregulation in the labour market, as part-time and casual jobs have peaked above the 50% threshold surpassing full-time contracted employment for the first time. Between January and September 2015, 51,50% of people hired by companies in the private sector were hired for part-time or casual jobs, compared to 48.5% who were taken on under full-time contracts. Major opposition party News Democracy MP, John Vroutsis commented on the data, claiming that the capital controls imposed in 2015, combined with tax hikes resulted in many businesses shutting down and the decline of households’ disposable income.
