Students and teachers to protest University police with a demonstration in Athens

The new law prohibits the gathering of over 100 people

Defying the recent law that prohibits public gatherings of over 100 people, students are taking to the streets today to react to the bill of the Ministry of Education for the Universities in protest, primarily, against the decision for the establishment of an on campus university police and the abolition of the “eternal” students status (university students study at universities for a long period with no time limitation).

At the rally in the centre of Athens, in addition to the students, the associations of primary and high school teachers, have announced that teachers will also participate.

The issue came to the fore of political contention yesterday as SYRIZA called the decision ‘disgraceful’ comparing it the practices adopted by the military junta (1967-1974).
