Syria: ISIS surrounds Kobane

The largest Kurdish city in Syria is under siege

A black flag rises in a building east of Kobane, a few miles off the Turkish borders, where Peshmerga Kurds are fighting hard to repel the Islamic State extremists.

According to Reuters, the flag is likely to belong to ISIS, since it bears words that refers to the extremists.

According to a Turkish official, the flag belongs to ISIS, while a BBC correspondent underlined that he recognized the flag belonging to the extremist group.

However, local authorities of Kobane state that ISIS have not raised their flag in the area.

A Syrian army official, however, who spoke to the BBC, admitted that the town is very likely to fall under ISIS control soon.

The official urged the international community to not abandon them, as 3000 citizens are still in the city proper.
