SYRIZA agrees with… Venizelos: If the government is defeated on May 25, its days will be numbered

“It’s time to rid ourselves of the memoranda and politicians of disaster” said SYRIZA leader – He accused the Deputy Prime Minister of being “a mere observer even before disaster” – The final stretch of the election race conflict has a ‘wild beauty’

Such … convergence of views between Evangelos Venizelos and SYRIZA was certainly unexpected: the main opposition party agrees with the president of PASOK that if SYRIZA wins the upcoming elections with a big margin, the government’s days are numbered.
Of course, Mr. Venizelos approached the issue from the perspective of his own party, PASOK, or more accurately “Olive Tree” alliance, which his party is a member of. If “Olive Tree” does not perform well in the May 25 European Parliament elections, it won’t be able to support the coalition, irrespective of the exact difference in votes between SYRIZA and Antonis Samaras party.

Alexis Tsipras and other top SYRIZA officials have rushed to confirm the dilemma posed by Mr. Venizelos, as from the outset SYRIZA’s objective was to give the European elections the character of a referendum, an objective that was expressed by the slogan “On May 25 we vote, on May 26 they are gone.”
In this light, the final stretch of the election race has a wild beauty, as the focus will not only be on Samaras – Tsipras confrontation, but also on the confrontation between Tsipras and Venizelos, as the two have a long tradition in political battles, both inside and outside the Parliament, with extreme expressions and personal attacks from either side.

The president of SYRIZA rushed to pick up the gauntlet thrown down by Mr. Venizelos in recent days. Speaking in Kalamata on Wednesday night, he told that the elections “will mean the end of government. They aren’t a “festival ” as they were telling us until yesterday, but a decisive battle.”
“It’s time to rid ourselves of the memoranda and politicians of disaster, to rid ourselves of anything old and corrupt. Because if we don’t finish them, they will finish us” Alexis Tsipras said.
“Mr. Venizelos is right to be afraid”
“Who is the leader of PASOK trying to blackmail? The citizens, by saying that if they don’t vote for him they will be deprived of the privilege of being destroyed by Samaras with his support or the strong domestic and international officials supporting the government to enforce their status? Does he fear being abandoned, just like his predecessors, to face the people outcry? “, asked Alexis Tsipras, adding that Evangelos Venizelos “is right to be afraid”.
