Tax dept. to have full access to all banking data 10 years back

Relevant order signed by FinMin Alexiadis

The auditors of the General Secretariat for Public Revenue (GGDE) will have full access to citizen’s bank accounts and transactions for the past 10 years, according to sources. Interim Deputy Finance Minister Tryphon Alexiadis signed the relevant order, which was an obligation emanating from the memoranda, allowing GGDE auditors to check every last Euro-cent that has been withdrawn or deposited in bank accounts by Greek tax payers for the last 10 years. This effectively provides full and unrestricted access to GGDE General Secretary Katerina Savaidou to proceed with ‘sweeping’ checks via the Control Center for Large Taxpayers. Until now the state tax auditors were only able to have information regarding the end of month bank accounts of individuals, while now they will have access to all transactions of individuals or companies from any banking institution and the freedom to request tax file numbers and data associated with bank transfers from any given period.
