The head of the Greek Orthodox Church unwavering on Macedonian name dispute

He addressed the Holy Synod on the matter

The Archbishop of Athens and all of Greece, Ieronymos was unwavering regarding the “Macedonian” issue during his address at the Greek Orthodox Church’s Permanent Holy Synod. According to sources, the head of the Greek Orthodox Church dubbed the matter not only “of national interest” but also an “ecclesiastic issue”. He added that it affected everyone and that the Greek Church was closely following the developments. He clarified, however, that he was not in favour of staging large public demonstrations to promote its stance.
“On such a fundamental matter for the nation, the church cannot remain indifferent and will take a stance. Not so much in terms of general position and so on, but in terms of the name”, the Archbishop said in a statement yesterday.
