They knew that Germanwings co-pilot A. Lubitz was unfit to fly!

Andreas Lubitz’s file was stamped “SIS”, showing that he should not have held his position after a “serious depressive episode” six years ago

Co-pilot Andreas Lubitz, aged 27, who deliberately pinned the Germanwings plane into the French Alps had already shown indications that he was unfit to fly, states Bild.

The Bild report points out that Lubitz had been hospitalized in a psychiatric clinic in 2009, according to files from Luftfahrtbundesamt, LBA, the German aviation authority. As a result of his hospitalization, he had to undergo regular and specialized therapy and his file was stamped with SIS, .

Speaking to the media, Lufthansa CEO Carsten Spohr said that Lubitz was “100% fit to fly” but he admitted that Lubitz had taken a “break” in his training six years ago. He stated that he was unaware as to why the several-month break occured.

A woman told Frankfurter Zeitung that he suffered to “depression” and was prone to panic attacks. Other reports suggest that depression resurfaced as he was struggling to cope with problems in his relationship. Police pointed to a ‘significant discovery’ as they searched through his flat in Dusseldorf though they did not find a suicide note. There are indications that he had been dumped shortly before crashing the plane en route to Dusseldorf from Barcelona, causing the death of 149 people.

His friends describe him as a quiet man who had a passion for flying. He got his glider pilot’s license as a teenager and attended the demanding prep program at the Monts-Tabor High School. Lubitz was fit and took part in local running races. He was accepted into the Lufthansa trainee program after high school with training started at 2008 at Bremen, Germany and Phoenix, Arizona.

He routinely served time as a flight attended during an 11-month waiting period before becomign a co-pilot. He had logged 630 hours of flying time. According to U.S. laws, 1,500 hours are required as a minimum before co-pilots can fly for commercial airlines.
