Voutsis: 570-euro cuts to monthly wages of Greek lawmakers

The cuts will come into effect on January 1, 2016

Parliamentary Speaker Nikos Voutsis is studying a plan that would result in a 10% reduction to the main wages of Greek lawmakers. The new salary index will be incorporated into the Parliamentary budget currently being drafted. Once included in the budget,  the cuts will be implemented from January 2016.

The cuts, according to Voutsis, are a continuation of a reduction that MPs have already accepted in their overall remuneration, though this will be the first time that their main wage will be slashed. Compensation that MPs receive for participation in committees (75-euro minimum fee) will remain intact. Judicial officers wages will also remain the same as will those of local government representatives.
