Weapons cache discovered on freighter intercepted off Crete

Assault rifles, half a million rounds of ammo and contraband cigarettes headed for Libya and …unknown recipients

A Bolivian-flagged freighter intercepted off Crete this week was carrying more than 4,000 assault rifles and nearly 500,000 rounds of ammunition, all reportedly headed to Libya.
The “Haddad1” was stopped and diverted to Irakleio, Crete, where authorities searched the vessel. Contraband cigarettes were also discovered aboard the vessel, which had disembarked from the port of Iskenderum, in southeast Turkey.
All seven crew-members, Syrians, Iraqis and Indians, were led before a prosecutor.
