2016 Athens Technopolis Jazz Festival kicks off Saturday (video)

Jazz, blues, traditional and improvisations on stage at Gazi

All the lovers of jazz music will be flocking to the Gazi area, Athens, for the 16th Athens Technopolis Jazz Festival which is being held over the weekend of May 28-29. The festive will open on Saturday, May 28 with the Athens military Guard band ‘Big Band’ on stage performing jazz, latin and Greek pieces. ‘Big Band’ has taken part in concerts abroad, while in 2015 it released its first album called ’STUDIO E2’. Later a 3-member band from Belgium, led by self-taught pianist-musician Pierre de Surgeres, will take the stage, while at around 10pm a 4-member group made up of two classical, a flamenco and an electric guitar will present jazz, blues and flamenco sounds.

Saturday’s schedule will close with a Swedish trio ‘Naoko Sakata Trio’, who will improvise on stage. For the Sunday program, Cypriot TriCoolOre will play their music featuring Pantelis Stoikos, while German band Quadro Nuevo will play balkan and arabesque sounds. The Festival will wrap up with Ergan Ogur & Telvin from Turkey.
