Caryatids in the second chamber of Amphipolis are standing proud on their pedestals while guarding the third one. Impressive pictures portray the majesty of the cluster which reaches the 3.67 meters.
The dimensions of the pedestals is 1.40m long and its width 1.36m, while its thickness reaches 0.72m. The floor in the second chamber is elevated by 0.07m with traces of blue color on the upper surface.
Ms Peristeri excavation team has already removed the biggest part of the color in a 1.5m depth behind the statutes of the Caryatids, revealing the continuity of the marble revetment wall which follows on all the walls of the Tomb.
According to the Ministry of Culture press release, the floor of the second chamber is elevated by 0.07m further than the first one.
