Spoke to Yazidis

Famous human rights lawyer and wife of Hollywood star George Clooney, Amal Alamuddin Clooney is reportedly visiting a refuge hotspot in the northern Greek city of Serres. According to local media, the 38-year-old activist, who is part of the London-based Doughty Street Chambers, was seen at the hotspot speaking to Yazidi refugees. Yazidis are an ethnic group caught up in the middle of the conflict and have been systematically persecuted by the Islamic State. Many females have been sold and used as sex slaves by Islamist fighters since the beginning of hostilities. According to local TV station ‘Tile-Epiloges’ she plans to legally prosecute ISIS before the International Court of Justice for crimes against the Yazidis and is collecting first hand accounts by the women about their ordeals at the hands of their enslavers to build a legal case. The lawyer did not make any statements to local press, but her interest in the Yazidi matter has been recorded in previous statements when she was quoted as saying that thousands of unarmed Yazidi civilians had been killed and thousands of women had been captured.
