A performance of an ancient tragedy was staged at the ancient theater of Salamina, in occupied northern Cyprus, for the first time in 41 years on Friday evening.
The performance of Euripides’ “Hippolytus” was staged by the Cyprus Theatre Organisation and followed an initiative by Cyprus President Nikos Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci to create a joint culture committee, part of CBMs agreed to by the two sides.
Thousands of theater-goers were in the audience, while a big-screen projected subtitles in the Turkish language for the numerous Turkish Cypriots in attendance.
