The Bulgarian government reacted to the rising migrant crisis faced by Greece by announcing that it is mobilizing its armed forces and police to better protect its borders.
The move followed scenes at the Greek-fYRoM borders hours earlier, as Syrian refugees and other third world migrants were prevented by armed guards from entering the landlocked country to Greece’s north.
The Bulgarian defence ministry announced that given the situation in neighboring countries (i.e. Greece, fYRoM), it will propose measure to defend the country’s borders.
Bulgarian Interior Minister Roumiana Batsvarova confirmed that authorities in Sofia are considering precautionary measures on the country’s southern and southwestern borders.
