Chancellor Merkel is TIME’s Person of the Year 2015

For her role on maintaining the stability in Europe

The US magazine” Time” chose German Chancellor Angela Merkel to be the Person of the Year 2015 for her role on maintaining the stability in Europe during one of the most difficult periods.

Within this year, according to the magazine, Merkel played a key role not only in managing the debt crisis, but also in the negotiations between the West and Russian President Vladimir Putin after the annexation of Crimea by Russian Federation, as well as the refugee crisis that began questioning the policy of open borders.

In these difficult circumstances, Time mentions, Merkel stood up to the challenge managing to reconcile seemingly incompatible aspects and views.

In magazine’s short list includes lsis leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, Black Lives Matter activists, Vladimir Putin, Iranian president Hassan Rouhani, Uber CEO Travis Kalanick.
