Dijsselbloem: Greek issue will be looked into in mid-Feb.

Eurogroup leader states that the new government needs time - Schauble : Commitments must be observed - Pasus Coelho : Athens shouldn't defy European rules whatsoever

Eurogroup head Jeroen Dijsselbloem on Monday said the issue of Greece will be discussed in mid February. He made the statements following the conclusion of a same-day Eurogroup meeting.

After expressing his congratulates to the new Greek government and assuring that “they will work together”, the Dutch head of Eurogroup stressed that the “government needs time”.

Earlier, German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schauble sent a warning to new Greek PM Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, saying that the country has obligations and that reforms are necessary for the EU.

Therefore, Schauble stated that “commitments must be observed”.

Furthermore, the Portuguese Prime Minister also commented on Greece, by stating “I hope that the government will be able to reconcile the needs for development with the need to respect European rules.”

“Athens shouldn’t defy European rules whatsoever”, Pasus Coelho stressed, adding that he hopes that Greece remains within the euro zone and that he “cannot imagine that a country does not want to keep its promises, or not want to pay its debts.”
