The Rio 2016 Olympics opened with a big ‘bang’ for tennis, as three of the top ranked players were knocked out in their first round. The ATP men’s world No.1, Novak Djokovic was eliminated by Argentinian Juan Martin del Porto (7-6, 7-6), while reigning champions, the Williams sisters (seeded no.1 in the tournament) suffered a stunning defeat in the first round of the women’s doubles at the hands of Czech couple Lucie Safarova and Barbora Strycova (6-3, 6-4). Porto had knocked out Djokovic in the 2012 Olympics in the semi-finals.
