Dutch reporter arrested in Turkey for offending Turkish Pres.

Erdogan can’t handle criticism

Ebru Umar, a Dutch columnist of Turkish descent was arrested in Turkey for comments she had published in Dutch newspaper ‘Metro’ against Turkey’s President Tayyip Erdogan. Among other things, she had characterised Erdogan as a ‘megalomaniac dictator’ and a ‘Sultan’, calling on him to ‘go f%&*@ck himself’. Dutch media report the country’s Foreign Ministry and its Embasy in Ankara are closely monitoring the matter. Turkey has gradually evolved into one of the most authoritarian countries against press freedom, with President Erdogan prosecuting and repressing all dissenting voices.
