European Commission Vice President Valdis Dombrovskis called for EU partners to reach a common solution for the refugee crisis. Speaking to German newspaper Rheinische Post, the Latvian politician said that a common method of dealing with the ‘ordeal’ Europe was going through, as he dubbed the refugee crisis, had to be reached as soon as possible. He was critical of the fact that some countries were bearing the brunt of the crisis, while others were unwilling to take their share of responsibility to overcome the problem. “This cannot continue”, he said, adding that “We need a European solution”. The 44-year old politician said that the EC had many proposals to address the problem one of them being the compulsory quota system, underling that what Europe was experiencing was a humanitarian crisis and therefore a ‘humanitarian answer’ was required. Dombrovskis also expressed his satisfaction on the progress of the Greek bailout program stressing that it was moving forward even with the interim government. “If economic stability is ensured in Greece, the country will be able to return to growth in 2014”, said Dombrovskis.
