European leaders decided to examine the EU-Turkish relations in light of the country’s provocative actions in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Greek PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades jointly raised today at the European Council the issue of Turkish actions in the eastern Mediterranean and the Aegean, drawing, with the contribution of Council President Charles Michel, the consent of the 27, for convening a special meeting in September, in which will discuss the EU – Turkey strategic relationship, in the light of the developments in the Eastern Mediterranean and Turkish actions.
The Cypriot President in his speech, argued that “the appeasement against Turkey was tried and failed” and the 27 should go from the verbal expression of solidarity to taking measures.
