In the last step Maria Belibasaki lost the gold medal.

The 27-year-old athlete from Crete made a new country record 50.45 and won the 5th medal for Greece.

This is her first medal at a major event and a personal vindication for her hard work, but also for her decision to take the risk and listen to all those who urged her to leave the 200m and try her fate at the 400m.
