Eurostat: Greece has the second highest price level for milk, cheese and eggs
Greece had the second highest price level for milk, cheese and eggs in the European Union in 2015, as Eurostat data released show.

The statistical office of the European Union carried out a survey on food, beverage and tobacco prices in 2015 in 38 participating countries covering a total of approximately 440 comparable products.

While citizens income has shrunk significantly by 25%, according to Eurostat, in Greece product prices are higher than in Germany, the Netherlands, Portugal and Spain.

Specifically, prices for milk, cheese and eggs are 31% higher than the European average, while bread and cereals are 14% and alcoholic drinks 17%.

However, the prices for meat , fruit and vegetables and tobacco are lower than EU average by 12%, 17%, and 24% respectively.

Denmark had the highest price level for food and non-alcoholic beverages in the EU in 2015, at 145% of the EU average, followed by Sweden (124%), Austria (120%), Ireland and Finland (both 119%) and Luxembourg (116%).

At the opposite end of the scale, the lowest price levels were observed in Poland (63%), Romania (64%), Bulgaria (70%), Lithuania (78%), the Czech Republic and Hungary (both 79%).
