Farmers continue tractor protests around Greece continue: guide to road blocks

Traffic mayhem: Tempi road block to continue for 12 hours

Farmers are escalating their protest action against planned pension reforms and tax changes with an expansion of road blocks and customs around Greece ahead of national strike action around the country on Thursday. Union representatives from 12 road blocks currently in place met with 24 mayors of regional Greece before deciding to continue their block at the Vale of Tempe, a gorge in the Tempi municipality of northern Thessaly, Greece, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Tuesday. There will also be intermittent two-hour and three-hour road blocks around the country throughout the day.

Farmers say that there will be road closers at the national highway of Viotia, Central Greece, at the 110th-km of Kastrou whereas other colleagues will be at the 90th-km.

Farmers at Nikaia have also called for a national meeting of representatives of road blocks on Sunday, February 7, at noon in Nikaia, Piraeus.

There are seven blocks at Fthiotida at the northern shoreline of Central Greece on the National Athens-Lamia highway, however two of these will close at the 140th km of Atalanti at noon and the 210th km of Anthili at 2 p.m.

The old national Lamia-Athens highway will be closed at Amphikleia at the border between Fthiotida and Viotia, whereas the Lamia-Domokou road will also be closed from noon to 2 p.m.

Committees of independent blocks in the Peloponnese, specifically Arcadia, Lakonia, Argolida, Messinia and Corinth are also escalating their efforts.

Farmers from the island of Crete escalated their protest on Monday morning when they took to the streets of Chania with tractors before gathering outside the vice-regional building. They took down the flag of the European Union and burnt it.

Mobilizations also took place in Athens with dozens of tractors around the Markopoulos junction at the Attiki Highway. As a result, there was traffic leading to and from the Eleftherios Venizelos Athens International Airport.

Kouloura-Imathia junction: Daily closure from noon-1p.m.

Evros: Kipon and Kastaneon customs closed, Promahona customs closed

Nestani, Arcadia: Closed from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Achaia, Peloponnese: Kato Achaia junction closed at Patra-Pyrgos National Highway from 6-9 p.m.

Aigialia: Patras-Athens highway closed from 6-10 p.m.

Malgara: 1 p.m. – 7 p.m. closure

Chalkidona: noon – 2 p.m. and 6 – 9 p.m. closure

Kerdyllia: Closure of the road from January 20 onwards

Drama: Blocks at Kokkinogeion Prosotsani, customs

Marmara of Skari: Blocks from noon to 2 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.

Kilkis: Evzonon Block with closures from noon to 2 p.m. and 6-9 p.m.

Doirani closures from 10 – 3 p.m. and 7-9p.m.

Pella: Blocks at the bridge of Servikia at Giannitsa and Edessa from 11 a.m. to noon and Amyntaio closed from 10 a.m. to noon and Melissi, Mavrovouni and Alysida Arnissos from 5.30-8 p.m.

Pieria: Block at Aiginio and Katerini with closures from 1-2 p.m.

Niselio Junction from Egnatia highway of Thessaloniki-Veria closed from the side towards Veria

Derveni Thessaloniki and Thermis bridge closed from noon to 6 p.m.

Chalkidiki: Blocks at Gomatio junction, Ierisso, at Nea Moudania and Nea Kallikratia

Krystallopigi Customs: Closed from 10-noon and from 6.30-8.30 p.m.

Nikis Customs: Closed from noon to 2 p.m. and from 7-9 p.m.

Antigonou Amyntai, first exit of Grevena towards Egnatia Higway to Ioannina and Neapoli: Closed from noon to 2 p.m. and 5.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m.

Argos Orestikou: Closure at the area running through Egnatia Highway on the road to Castoria from noon to 1.30 p.m. and 4.30-6.30 p.m.

Polymylou Customs at Kozani: noon to 1 p.m. closure

Igoumenitsa Port: Road blocks from 7 p.m.

Agrinio: National Antirriou-Ioannina highway closed from 5-11 p.m.

Evinou Bridge: Closed from 7-9p.m.

Preveza block at Lourou: Closed from noon to 2 p.m. and from 7-9 p.m.

Arta Komboti: Closed from 7-11p.m.

Arta Entry: Closed from 3-7p.m.
